Hello again! This is Kyle, your wandering Whovian, back for another tale from Pensacon 2023 and my conversations with The Doctor.
In my previous entry, I’d talked with Sylvester McCoy. But now it was time to sit down with My Doctor.
Oh, right. For those of you who are not huge Doctor Who nerds, at the time of this writing, there have been 13 actors who have portrayed the Doctor as the main actor on the television show. (The number has gotten a little fuzzy in the last few years because of… wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff.) But when you say My Doctor, you are referring to the first Doctor you started watching. You can love them all, but you never forget your first Doctor. And Peter Davison was mine.
And I’d had a chance to meet him at GenCon a while back, where I got him to sign an amazing piece of art I found online from an artist named Jon Pinto.
Peter seemed genuinely excited about the artwork too, so I knew I’d picked right. But now I actually got to spend more than 30 seconds on the show floor with him.
Because we had to do this early, I ended up catching the 5th Doctor in the middle of his breakfast. So you’ll spot his yogurt and spoon popping into frame from time to time. Even Time Lords have to eat!
Here’s my quick breakfast chat with Peter Davison, where we talk a little Who and a bit of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy too!
And just as our chat wrapped, the van arrived to bring them over.
Which was the moment that Paul McGann, the 8th Doctor, stepped up and said hello. He’d been sitting quietly on the other side of the room, and even laughed at some of Peter’s stories, but sadly the mic didn’t pick it up.
Then he said, “Would you like me to go next?”
And while I would have loved nothing more, I knew the show must go on.
I said, “I would love to, but I’m afraid your ride is here.”
And the group of them hopped onto their, sadly not blue, transport and off they went to meet their adoring fans.
At the show were the 6th Doctor, Colin Baker and the (never skip Nine!) 9th Doctor, Christopher Eccleston. I can promise that they were there, but I didn’t get a chance to chat with them, as their schedules were packed with autograph sessions and photo ops.
That should be the end, but it’s isn’t! The hard working staff were able to get me more more bonus interview…
Which I’ll tell you about in the next entry.
