The U.S.S. Discovery, a Crossfield-class starship, served as the testbed for the spore drive and was active during the Klingon war. This is the original version that appeared in the first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery before being sent to the 32nd century. Designed by John Eaves, who collaborated with creators Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, the Discovery's design was inspired by the work of legendary production designer Ken Adam, who worked on an unproduced Star Trek film in the 1970s.
